On Monday I shared a wooden embellished box that I created for my display at CHA. Today I am back with a second wooden box that is the baby sister version of the box from the last post. The formula for this box is the same, but the look is a bit more vintage.
Like the yellow box, it originally featured an image of a fishing lure on the lid and was found on the clearance aisle at Hobby Lobby. I don’t know about you, but I think the flowers embellishing the box lid are way prettier than fishing lures! 😉
With this box I followed the same plan but used a few different elements. I used a piece of vintage ledger paper on the lid to cover the original graphic. I didn’t glue the paper down as well so that it could curl and peel up a bit in places. I did that to play up the age and wear on the paper. It is also a great way to add extra dimension.
I used vintage jewelry bits and new silver gears as embellishments. I am not sure who makes the silver gears, I picked them up at Memory Bound in Iowa when I taught there last year. I love gears and loved that these were shiny silver.
I think mixing hard embellishments with the soft touch of the flowers adds a nice balance. Tucking the embellishments under and around the flowers plays up the dimension and layers.
I created the flowers for this box from crinoline using my Shabby Posies and Pom Pom Posies dies. I added a bow to this box using a piece of vintage trim from my stash. I love that with projects like this one I can use those treasured pieces of vintage trim or embellishments and enjoy them instead of having them tucked away in a box.
I love how sweet these boxes are when done! Can’t you think of a few people who would love getting such a pretty treasure as a gift?
PS. The ship date for all of my products is April. They will be available at stores worldwide (independents and online) and online at www.spellbinderspaperarts.com!
